Puris for Pani Puri

Today I am going to share with you a very interesting recipe, puris for the pani puri. In India, one can buy a 100 puris packet from the stores & enjoy them. But outside India, you will not find these puris. But what if you want to have pani puri ? The solution is simple. Why not make it yourself.

I will also share with you a secret tip for making the puris crunchy. So lets get started.

Ingredients:
  • 1 cup Sooji
  • 1/2 tsp All Purpose Flour
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • Water

Method:
  • Mix all dry ingredients Sooji, salt & all purpose flour in a bowl.
  • Add 1 tbsp of oil to it. Mix the ingredients again till all the dry ingredients become crumbly.
  • Now add lukewarm water to the above dry mixture little by little & form a medium soft dough.
  • Let it rest for atleast 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes check the dough. If it has become hard, wet your hands a bit & knead the dough again for a minute.
  • Now make very small balls of the dough say around 1cm in diameter. Roll each ball into a flat puri say around 3 cm in diameter. Roll it thin.
  • While rolling a puri, cover the remaining dough with a damp cloth.
  • Heat oil in a kadai
  • Put the rolled out puris one by one in the hot oil. Keep the heat on medium level. The puris will puff up. Fry them till they are golden from all sides. Then remove them on a kitchen napkin.
  • Fry all the puris one by one.
  • Once done frying, preheat the oven to 80 degree Celsius.

  • Place all the puris in a oven proof tray. Place this puris in the preheated oven. Let the puris be in the oven for around 40 minutes.
  • After 40 minutes, remove the tray. Transfer the puris on a kitchen napkin. Let them rest on the kitchen napkin. The kitchen napkin will absorb the extra oil.
  • Later transfer them in an airtight container.

Tips:
  • Make puris a day before you want to eat them. So that you can enjoy the puris without being tired. Making puris takes time.
  • Do let the dough rest atleast 15 mins before rolling them into puris.
  • Fry them on low-medium heat so that they get crunchy.
  • Placing the puris in oven makes them even more crunchy. Also it removes excess oil from the puris.
  • If you don't have oven, you can microwave it for 2 to 5 mins depending on its power. But you will have to keep a watch as they might get burnt easily since you cant control the power of a microwave.
  • This puris can be stored in an airtight container for upto 2 weeks.
  • You can make pani puri, dahi puri with these puris.
