Falafel is a traditional middle - eastern snack. It is a deep fried patty made from ground chickpeas. It tastes great just like that. It is generally served in pita loaded with veggies & sauces. Today I am showing you the same falafels but made differently. Instead of frying I am just cooking it in waffle iron. Sounds interesting, isn't it ?

Ingredients:
For Falafel Waffles:
- Chickpeas 1 cup
- Garlic Cloves 3 medium
- Coriander leaves
- Parsley
- Green Chilies 3 or 4
- Cumin seeds powder 1 tsp
- Coriander seeds powder 2 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Black Pepper (almost 1 tsp)
- Oil
- Lemon Juice 2 tsp
- Baking Powder 1/2 tsp
- Onion finely chopped 1/4 cup
- Yoghurt 1 cup
- Lemon juice 1 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper 1 tsp
- Mint leaves few chopped finely
Method:
For falafel Waffles:
- Soak chickpeas for 6 - 8 hours in enough water.
- After 6 - 8 hours, the chickpeas will have doubled in size. Now drain off all the water from it.
- Now grind it to a coarse paste along with garlic cloves, green chilies, coriander leaves & parsley.
- Remove it in a bowl. Season the mixture with salt, cumin seeds powder, coriander seeds powder, crushed black pepper, black pepper, finely chopped onion, lemon juice & baking powder. Mix well.
- Preheat the waffle iron.
- Pour a ladleful of waffle batter in the waffle iron.
- Close it. Let it cook for 10 - 12 minutes.
- Mix all ingredients for sauce - yoghurt, salt, black pepper, lemon juice & mint leaves. Mix well. Add water if necessary to make sauce like consistency.
- Add baking powder just before making the waffles.
- If you want it to be brown, cook it for little more time in waffle iron.
- If you don't have waffle iron make in the sandwich maker. It will be the same with a different shape.
