Mango Moong Dal Halwa



                I have been waiting long for Mangoes here in Netherlands. I finally got hold of them. I had a recipe in my mind since long using mangoes which I wanted to try. The moment I got Indian mangoes I tried this recipe. Voila !!! Perfect !!! A delicious dessert to try !!!

                Its Moong dal halwa using mangoes. Tempting !! Isn't it ?? Just try it out. U will love it. If you don't have mangoes u can also use mango puree.

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup Moong dal
  • 1 cup hot milk
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • Cardamom powder 1 tsp
  • Finely Chopped almonds, pistachios, cashews 2 tbsp.
  • 1 cup chopped mango pieces
  • 2 tbsp. ghee
 
Method:
  • Roast moong dal on low flame until you can smell the aroma of roasted moong dal.
  • Once it cools down, grind to a coarse powder.
  • Heat a non stick pan.
  • Add ghee to it.
  • Add roasted moong dal powder to it. Stit for a couple of minutes.
  • Add chopped mangoes to it. Stir well. Try to mash mango pieces while cooking.
  • Add hot milk to it. Stir well. Cook till all the milk is absorbed by moong dal.
  • Add sugar to it. Cook till all the sugar melts.
  • Cook the halwa till it thickens. Keep stirring continuously on low flame.
  • Once it thickens, place a lid on the pan. & cook covered on very low heat for 7 - 8 minutes.
  • Add cardamom powder & chopped nuts. Stir well.
  • Now cook uncovered for couple of minutes.

Roast Moong dal on low flame until lovely aroma comes from it.
Grind it to a coarse powder,

Heat ghee in a non stick pan.




Add coarsely ground moong dal powder to the ghee. Stir well.

Add chopped mangoes to it. Cook for 5 minutes. Mash while cooking.
 
Add milk to it. Once all the milk is absorbed add sugar.
Cook till halwa thickens.
Add cardamom powder & dry fruits to it.

 
 
Tips:
  • The quantity of sugar depends on how sweet the mangoes are. It may vary. Better check the sweetness of mangoes first.
  • Cook on low flame & keep stirring continuously.
