Upma is a healthy breakfast. Its very easy to make. Check the recipe below...
Ingredients:
- Coarse Semolina 1 cup
- Water 2.5 cups
- Onion 1 small finely chopped
- Green Chili 2 chopped in pieces
- Urad Dal 1 tsp
- Curry Leaves
- Coriander leaves
- Nylon Sev
- Salt to taste
- Oil
- Ginger 1 cm piece finely chopped
- Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
- Asafetida a pinch
- A lemon wedge
- Freshly scraped coconut (optional)
Method:
- Heat oil in a pan.
- Add mustard seeds. When they crackle, add chopped green chili, finely chopped ginger, asafetida, coriander leaves, curry leaves & urad dal.
- When urad dal turns golden, add finely chopped onions.
- When onions turn translucent, add semolina.
- Roast semolina until semolina turns golden.
- Add water & salt to taste.
- Cook until all the water is absorbed by semolina.
- Serve hot.
- Garnish with coriander leaves, nylon sev, freshly scraped coconut(optional) & a small drizzle of lemon juice.
Tips:
- Prepare this upma on medium heat.
- Use coarse variety of semolina.
